Help
Groupies works on the web and inside the chat your group already uses. Pick your app, or jump to a feature.
Slack
Install the app, create events from the Home tab, a shortcut or /groupies, and browse a month calendar without leaving Slack.
Discord
Everything happens through the /groupies command and the buttons on each event.
Discord commands
- Create an event with signup slots. Fill in the title, Starts (like
2026-11-07 20:00), Ends (a time like22:00, a date and time if it runs past midnight, or blank for an hour) and the location, which can be an address or any link. For an all-day event, type only the date in Starts, and the last date in Ends if it lasts several days. Then add slots one at a time with + Add slot (a name and an optional limit) and press Post event. Use therepeatoption to make it weekly or every two weeks, andcalendarto put it on a calendar other than the main one. - Show upcoming events and post one in the channel.
- Set your own time zone, so the times you type are read in it. Discord doesn't tell Groupies where you are. Use
autoto clear it./groupies createalso has atimezoneoption for one event, and the draft panel names the zone with a Change time zone button. - Set the server's time zone, used for new events when their creator hasn't set their own (managers only). Existing events keep their zones.
- Cancel an upcoming event (managers only).
- Stop a repeating event and cancel its upcoming dates (managers only).
- Connect the server to a group made on the Groupies website, with the code from your group's page (managers only).
- Get a one-time link that adds your Discord account to your Groupies web login.
- Post the group's support card, with a Chip in button.
On each event, tap a slot's button to sign up and tap it again to leave. Add to calendar gives you links for Google Calendar, Apple Calendar and Outlook.
Every event also has Maybe and Can't go; answering one takes you off your slots after you confirm, and tapping it again clears it. Add note puts a short note (up to 140 characters) next to your name. In /groupies create, Just who's going makes the event a single Going button, and Maybe / Can't go turns those two answers on or off.
Whoever manages an event (server managers, the calendar's admins, and whoever created it) can press Edit on it to change its details, rename a slot or change its limit, add or remove slots, move it to another calendar, or choose One slot per person or More than one slot, then press Save changes. People already signed up keep their places, and a slot with signups can't be removed. The same panel has Add someone… (pick a member, then a slot or Maybe / Can't go) and Remove someone…; the person gets a direct message when Discord allows it.
Calendars that members make for themselves in Slack or on the web, shared with only them or with a Slack channel, don't appear on Discord.
A server manager can link a circle to a Discord role on the website, in Settings → Circles. The circle's members then follow the role: Groupies adds or removes people when they next use a command or button here, or open the group on the web. A linked circle's members can't be edited by hand; change who has the role in Discord instead.
Basecamp
Groupies works with Basecamp 4 projects. A Groupies chatbot posts new events in the project's Campfire, with the time, the place, the open slots and a link to sign up or RSVP. Changes and cancellations get a short update. Basecamp chat has no buttons, so signing up happens on the web.
To connect, a group admin opens Settings, chooses Connect Basecamp, signs in to Basecamp, then picks the projects to link and the calendar each one shows. Basecamp only lets account admins add chatbots, so the person connecting should be a Basecamp admin.
Each linked project needs Chat and Calendar turned on in Basecamp (older projects call them Campfire and Schedule). If one is missing, open the project in Basecamp, click + and add it. Groupies picks it up within the hour, or choose Check again on the project in Settings.
Campfire commands
- The next upcoming events on the project's calendar, with how many are going.
- A link to sign in to Groupies with the email address you use in Basecamp, which links your account.
- What the chatbot can do.
Each event on a linked calendar also appears in the project's Schedule, with its details, the number going and a link to sign up. Repeating events show their occurrences for the next few weeks. Syncing goes one way: Groupies is the source, so edits made to these entries in Basecamp are replaced. Change the event in Groupies instead.
Everyone in a linked project becomes a member of the group, so managers can add them to slots. When someone signs in to Groupies with an email address they've verified that matches their Basecamp one, their Basecamp profile and signups join their account.
Basecamp chatbots can't send direct messages, so people who use Groupies through Basecamp get notifications by email and in the bell on the website. Admins can also turn on a daily Campfire reminder of the next day's events.
Disconnecting in Settings removes the chatbot and stops syncing. You can choose to remove the Groupies entries from the Schedules too.
Using the calendar
Switch between Month, Week, Day and List in the toolbar. A multi-day event shows as one bar, and all-day events come first. Events show in their calendar’s colour, which you pick under Edit calendar.
Hover a day, or a time on the week and day views, and press + to add an event there. On the time grid you can also drag out a range. On touch, tap first to show the +.
If you manage an event, drag it to a new day or time. On a phone, press and hold first. With the keyboard, focus it and use Alt with the arrow keys. To change a detail, click it on the event and type; there’s no form to open.
What you’ll see: small icons on your events: ✓ for going, ? for maybe and 🔔 for events you follow.
The event page
An event’s page folds into sections: Who’s going, Photos & files, Share & invite and Organizer, plus Chip in & payments when it has any. Press a section’s heading to open or close it. Your browser remembers your choice.
What you’ll see: a heading for each section, with a short summary such as 12 going beside it while it’s closed.
Calendars and circles
In the sidebar, under Calendars, choose New calendar to add one for each activity. Edit calendar lets you rename it, pick its colour and choose who sees it: anyone with the link, every member, chosen circles, only you, or a Slack channel’s members. Circles are made in Settings → Circles.
What you’ll see: the sidebar’s Calendars list, each calendar with its colour. Its events show in the same colour on the calendar.
Repeating events
When you create an event, set Repeats to every week or every 2 weeks, and pick an Until date if it ends. With no date, it goes on indefinitely. Groupies posts each date as it comes up. When you edit one, or drag it to a new time, you’re asked which to change: Just this event, This and following events or All events.
What you’ll see: a repeat icon in the event’s details, with how often it repeats.
Time zones
Everyone sees times in their own zone. On the web, choose yours from the zone menu in the calendar’s toolbar. In Discord, run /groupies my-timezone. Slack uses your Slack time zone.
What you’ll see: the event’s time in your zone, with the zone it was planned in beside it when they differ.
Subscribe in your calendar app
Subscribe to any of your group's calendars, or all of them, in Google Calendar, Apple Calendar or Outlook. New events, time changes and cancellations show up on their own. Calendar apps check for updates regularly; Google can take a few hours. It only goes one way: changing an event in your calendar app doesn't change it in Groupies.
On the web, press the calendar icon next to a calendar's name and choose Add to calendar, or copy the link. In Slack, press Subscribe in your calendar in the Home tab. For one feed of everything you've signed up for across your groups, open Your events and press Get my calendar link. Events you said Maybe to show as tentative.
Each link is personal to you. It only shows calendars you can see, and if your access changes, the link follows. Don't share it. To add one event instead, use Add to calendar on the event.
Notifications
Use Notify me on an event, a calendar or a group to follow it. You hear about sign-ups, changes and new events. Events you organize or are going to are followed for you.
Choose where each kind of news goes in Notifications on the web: the bell, a Slack or Discord message, or email. Turn on the daily digest for one summary a day instead.
What you’ll see: a bell in the web header with a count of unread news. Its menu lists each one with a link to the event.
Event photos
Event photos are part of Groupies Plus, which a group admin turns on in Settings → Plan. Founding groups have it free. Everyone who can see an event can then add photos to its gallery, and download or share them. Photos are kept in high quality, up to 4096 pixels on the long edge, and location data is removed from every photo.
Add photos from the event’s page on the web. Guests can scan the event’s Photos QR code, enter their name and tap Add photos. In Slack, reply with photos in the thread under the event’s card, or use the Add to event photos shortcut on any message; Groupies replies with a link to the gallery. In Discord, press 📸 Add photos on the card, or choose Add to event photos from a message’s Apps menu.
Drag a batch of photos onto the upload box, or click it to choose them. Each one shows its progress, with the total and the time left. If one fails, try it again without starting over. Photos too big to upload are scaled down in your browser first.
What you’ll see: a grid of thumbnails on the event page, with the upload box as its first tile. Tap a photo to open it full screen and swipe; Select lets you download several as a ZIP, share them to your phone’s apps, or delete them.
Files on events
An event’s managers and group admins can add up to 3 files of 10 MB each under Photos & files: images, PDFs, Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents, and plain text or CSV files. Files are part of Plus. Anyone who can see the event can download them.
Groupies checks each file by its content, not its name. Images are rebuilt, and documents with macros or anything else that can run are refused. Files always download; they never open in the browser.
What you’ll see: each file’s name and size in a list, with the upload box below it while there’s room for more.
Public invites and check-in
A public invite is a link anyone can RSVP to, without an app or an account. Guests give their name and email, and get updates if the event changes. Public invites are part of Plus.
On the event, under Public invite, choose how many guests each person can bring (none, or up to 10), whether organizers approve each guest, and what the invite page shows: the names of who’s going, counts only, or nothing. Slot limits cap how many can come.
Each guest’s confirmation email has a QR code. At the door, open the event and choose Scan tickets. Organizers and the door staff they pick can scan codes or find guests by name, and the count updates for everyone. Add walk-ups with Add walk-up; on a paid event, they pay first.
Where Groupies has Apple Wallet or Google Wallet set up, the email also has Add to Apple Wallet and Save to Google Wallet. A saved pass keeps the event details from when it was saved, and its QR code still works at the door.
Under Share & QR codes on the event, download each code or print a poster. Invite opens the RSVP page, Photos opens the photo upload, and Pay at the door opens the event’s payment.
What you’ll see: on the guest’s phone, the event with Going, Maybe and Can’t go. At the door, the camera with a count of who’s checked in out of who’s going; each scan shows the guest’s name, with an Undo.
Chip in
A group admin connects Stripe in Settings → Payments & chip-ins, then turns on chip-ins in Settings → Chip in. Members get a Support page and can chip in once or, when signed in, every month. In Slack or Discord, /groupies support posts the support card. An event can also ask for a chip-in, which guests on a public invite can pay too. Anyone can cover the card fee or chip in anonymously, and the money goes to the group’s Stripe account.
What you’ll see: the Support page: what it’s for, a progress bar toward the goal, suggested amounts, One time or Monthly, and a Cover the card fee box.
Put your calendar on your website
Any calendar visible to Anyone with the link can be shown on your group's own website. It stays up to date by itself.
- Open your group's Settings, then Calendars.
- On a calendar visible to anyone with the link, open Embed on your website. Calendars for members only have no embed code: change who can see one under Edit calendar first.
- Copy the embed code and paste it into your site's HTML, for example in an HTML or embed block.
Choose Embed code with automatic height to make the frame as tall as the calendar. Add ?theme=light or ?theme=dark to the frame's address to match your site, or ?view=month for a month grid instead of a list. Colors and fonts come from your group's Appearance settings.
Change your group's web address
Every group has its own address, like yourgroup.groupi.es. Admins can change it in Settings → Web address. Your group's address shows its public pages; members sign in on groupi.es.
Use 3 to 48 lowercase letters, digits and hyphens, starting and ending with a letter or digit. Some names are reserved, and each address belongs to one group only.
Links with the old address keep working: they take people to the new one. Calendar subscriptions and embed codes don't use the address, so they never change.
Use your own domain
Show your group's public calendars on your own address, like calendar.yourclub.com.
Your own domain shows your public calendars, their events and the embed. Members sign in on groupi.es: anything that needs signing in, like signing up for a slot or Settings, opens on your group's groupi.es address.
- In Settings → Web address, enter the domain under Custom domain and choose Add domain.
- Groupies shows the DNS records to add: a CNAME record that points your domain at us, and a TXT record that proves it's yours. Each has a name and a value to copy.
- Add the records at the company that runs your domain's DNS (see below).
- Back in Settings, choose Check now. DNS changes take from a few minutes to 72 hours. Once the records are found, a certificate is issued and the status changes to Active.
Use a subdomain such as calendar.yourclub.com. A root domain (yourclub.com) only works if your DNS provider supports CNAME flattening (also called ALIAS or ANAME), as Cloudflare does. GoDaddy and Amazon Route 53 don't.
Adding the records at your DNS provider
- Cloudflare: open your domain, then DNS → Records → Add record. Choose the type and paste the name and the value. For the CNAME record, turn the proxy off so the cloud is grey (DNS only); with the orange cloud the certificate can't be issued.
- GoDaddy: open My Products, choose DNS next to your domain, then Add New Record. Choose the type, put the name in Name and the value in Value.
- Namecheap: open Domain List, choose Manage next to your domain, then Advanced DNS → Add New Record. Choose CNAME Record or TXT Record, put the name in Host and the value in Value or Target.
Groupies shows each name without your domain (calendar, not calendar.yourclub.com), which is what most providers expect. If yours wants the full name, add your domain to it.
To stop using the domain, choose Remove domain in Settings, then delete the records at your DNS provider.
Your logo and theme
A group admin sets the look in Settings → Appearance: a theme such as Groupies, Cherry, Rose or Amber, light or dark, an accent colour and, with Plus, your own logo. The look applies to your group’s pages for everyone in it.
What you’ll see: a preview of an event and a button in your colours, which updates as you change them.
Free and Plus
Groupies is free for every group. Plus adds event photos with 100 GB of storage, files on events, public invites with QR posters and door check-in, and your own logo. Plus will cost $5 a month or $50 a year per group.
Billing isn’t on yet: founding groups get Plus free at launch.
What you’ll see: Settings → Plan shows your group’s plan. Founding groups see Founding group: Plus included free.
One-tap sign-in
If you have a web login linked to Slack or Discord, links in messages only you can see open the website signed in: direct messages, replies only you can see, and your App Home. A link works once, for a week, and only for you. Links in shared messages open the sign-in page as usual.
What you’ll see: a short Signing you in page, then the page you asked for. If you’re signed in as someone else, Groupies asks which account to use.
Install the app
Groupies can go on your phone’s home screen. On an iPhone, open groupi.es in Safari, tap the Share button, then Add to Home Screen. On Android, use Install app when it’s offered, or your browser’s menu.
What you’ll see: the Groupies icon on your home screen. It opens full screen, like any other app.
Paid events
Put a price on a slot in the event editor on the web, then choose how people pay: to the organizer by Venmo, PayPal, Cash App or Zelle, or by card through your group's own Stripe account. Venmo, Cash App and Zelle are for prices in US dollars; PayPal works in any currency. People pay from Slack, Discord or the web. Group admins set it up in Settings → Payments on the web.
