Groupies for Basecamp
New events post in your project’s Campfire, and its Schedule stays in step. People sign up and RSVP on the web.
How it works
Create your group
Sign up on the web and create a group, or use the one you already have.
Connect Basecamp
A group admin opens Settings and chooses Connect Basecamp. Connect as a Basecamp account admin, since only they can add chatbots.
Link a project
Pick the projects to link and the calendar each one shows. The Groupies chatbot joins each Campfire. Each linked project needs Chat and Calendar turned on in Basecamp (older projects call them Campfire and Schedule).
Keep track in Basecamp
New events post in the Campfire, changes get a short update, and the Schedule fills in. Run
!groupies listto see what’s coming.
What your group gets
Events in the Campfire
New events post with the time, the place, the open slots and a link. Changes and cancellations get a short update.
Schedule sync
Each event appears in the project’s Schedule. Groupies is the source, so make changes there.
Campfire commands
!groupies listshows what’s coming,!groupies linklinks your account, and!groupies helpexplains the rest.Everyone’s already in
People in a linked project become group members, so managers can add them to slots.
Daily reminder
Admins can turn on a daily Campfire reminder of the next day’s events.
The rest on the web
Sign up, RSVP and see the full calendar on groupi.es, in month, week, day or list view.
Paid events
Put a price on a slot and people pay when they sign up: by card into your group’s own Stripe account, or straight to the organizer by Venmo, PayPal, Cash App or Zelle.

What Groupies can access
You connect Groupies by signing in to Basecamp as an admin. Here’s what it does there.
- Campfire
- Adds the Groupies chatbot, which posts events and answers
!groupiescommands. - Schedule
- Adds an entry for each event on the linked calendar, for the next 90 days, and keeps it up to date.
- People
- Reads who’s in a linked project, so managers can add them to slots. Clients and bots aren’t included.
What it doesn’t do
- It doesn’t read your Campfire. It hears only messages that start with !groupies.
- It doesn’t read changes back from Basecamp. Edits made to its Schedule entries are replaced.
- It can’t send direct messages. People get notifications by email and in the bell on the website.
Questions
What does it cost?
Groupies is free for every group. Plus adds event photos and files, public invites with door check-in, and your own logo, and founding groups get it free at launch. Later it will be $5 a month or $50 a year per group.
Card payments are the exception: Groupies keeps a small fee on each one. Venmo, PayPal, Cash App and Zelle payments are free and go straight to the organizer.
Does everyone need a Groupies account?
To sign up for a slot, yes. Basecamp chat has no buttons, so signing up happens on the web. When someone signs in with a verified email that matches their Basecamp one, their Basecamp profile and signups join their account.
How do I remove Groupies?
Disconnect in Settings. That removes the chatbot and stops syncing, and you can choose to remove the Groupies entries from the Schedules too. Basecamp people stay group members.
What happens to our data?
Groupies stores what it needs to run your events: the events, who signed up, and names and emails from Basecamp. Basecamp’s access token is stored encrypted. To have your group’s data deleted, contact us.
